Great experience teaching us that we can agree to disagree and ultimately we can share the space to do good, in different ways, as long as our heart truly believes it is doing good from our point of view

Great post. Is the picture at the top actually the guy you spoke to? He seems to have a connection with hawks, if nothing else. I always find it strange when people have strong connections to one species, but can't expand it to others. But I suppose that's the way of the entire world -- dog loving, and pig-eating. etc.

You should try to stay in touch with this guy. Maybe it could turn into something more meaningful, even, then one good conversation. And it's good to have connections to people outside of our echo chamber.

I should have gotten his contact! He is not actually the man in the photo. It would have been nice to invite him to an animal rights hangout. He'd bring some really interesting perspective to the discussion -- as most anyone outside these circles would.

“There never seemed to be victory when a terrified seal escaped a starving mother polar bear.” This hits home. You write with deep understanding of what it means to be vegan and animal rights advocate. Also, I find the first point most helpful. It may even help to clarify not just to ourselves but also to the other person (especially when it’s a friend or someone we know)— our goal out of the conversation may not be to change their minds (which is rarely the case) but to share what we know and learn “where they come from” as you said. It can be frustrating sometimes; we can only do what we think best doesn’t harm the movement or more animals.

It can be so frustrating and lonely! That's why it's great to have a broader movement, including people like you advocating for and engaging with these ideas. Thanks so much for the read!
